Our Commitment
Mayo Law advises clients across six core practice areas: U.S. and Canadian immigration (including E-2 investor visas, L-1, TN, H-1B, O-1, EB-1 through EB-5, PERM, family-based petitions, and Canadian citizenship including Bill C-3 matters); residential and commercial real estate across the Greater Toronto Area; business and corporate law (incorporation, contracts, M&A, fractional general counsel); international and cross-border business; white-collar defense; regulatory compliance and risk management; and notary public services in both Ontario and New York.
Joseph Mayo holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from New York University School of Law and is licensed to practice in both Ontario (Law Society of Ontario) and New York State (New York State Bar). He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Law Society of Ontario. This dual-jurisdiction licensure is the foundation of Mayo Law’s cross-border practice — clients with matters that span Canada and the United States can coordinate their legal work with one firm rather than retaining separate counsel in each jurisdiction.
Mayo Law provides legal services through two affiliated entities: Mayo Law PC offers services in Ontario, and Joseph Mayo PLLC offers services in New York. Each entity operates independently and is responsible for its own legal services in its jurisdiction. The two entities share the Mayo Law brand and Joseph Mayo as principal attorney, which is what allows the firm to coordinate seamlessly on cross-border matters while maintaining proper licensing in each jurisdiction.
Yes. Mayo Law accepts new clients across all practice areas. The intake process typically begins with an initial consultation where we discuss your matter, scope of work, fee structure, and timeline. We do not accept matters outside our practice areas or jurisdictions of licensure, but we maintain a network of trusted counsel across other Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions for referrals where needed. Visit the contact page to schedule a consultation.
Most cross-border legal matters in Canada and the U.S. require clients to retain two separate law firms — one in each jurisdiction — and coordinate between them. Mayo Law’s dual licensure (Ontario and New York) allows clients with cross-border matters to work with one firm rather than two, reducing coordination overhead, conflicting advice, and total legal cost. The firm’s positioning is Toronto-first, cross-border when needed: most clients have their primary legal needs in Ontario, with U.S. work layered in when their business or family situation requires it.
